Tutorials: Uploading Videos

I just recently received an e-mail from Limey2001 asking how to put videos onto your blog. I figured that since it is a complicated answer and many will benefit I will post instructions here on my blog. Look out for instructions on how to post music too.

Posting videos from Youtube.com and video.google.com is easy, because they give you a string of text and all you need to do is put it into a post. Posting videos that you find on other sites however are more difficult.

Originally I was posting the videos with my own code, however on some browsers the video would automatically start playing as soon as you enter the page. I think it was Firefox that had the problem. So I therefore figured out the following alternative.

In summary the idea is to post a picture with a link behind it that opens up the video in your media player. This is how you can do it.

First you will need to get a picture of the video. This can be gained by playing the video, and using the print screen option, if you know how it works. Allternatively you can search for any image on google that may be similar to the video you want to share.

Example:

Step 2, will be to find out where the video is on the website you found it on. This can be done by getting properties of the video by right clicking the video and selecting properties.

Example:

You will then need to copy the link that it presents under "location".

Once you upload this image onto blogger and you have copied the link, you will find the following string of data in the "Edit HTML" tab as follows:

You now need to paste your link over the original herf (the shaded area in the picture).

This effectively makes your image a clickable link to the video. Here is an example of one that I have already done:

I hope this was easy enought to understand. It is not too difficult, and once you get the idea it is very simple afterwards.

P.S. this will only work on videos that are already uploaded onto the internet i.e. on a website. Videos that are on your computer will not work unless you upload them.

Look out for uploading music. This is slightly more difficult and it is late now.
