Tutorial: Uploading Music

Uploading music is slightly more difficult. The reason for this is that it is not entirely leagal plus there are very few places that you can easily upload and download file onto the internet for free! However here is the way I would do it.

In summary what you will be doing is, uploading your music file onto the internet, locate it and then put it on your blog.

First you will need to upload your file. http://www.streamload.com/ will allow you to open a free account and allow for a limited amount of uploads per month. Open an account with them and follow instructions on to upload your file/mp3.

Once you have done this and the file is "active" (usually it takes a couple of minutes, after it has been uploaded, to become available), you need to locate it in your "inbox", open it and click play.

Clicking play will open your mp3 in your default music player. I use Winamp and Windows Media Player so I will show you what to do with these, however any player will be the roughly the same procedure.

Winamp:

Once you file is playing in winamp you will need to get the properties on the file by right clicking it and selecting "View file info...". This will present you with the following information.

You will need to copy the link that is in the top section of the box inorder to place it on your blog.

Windows Media Player:

Once you file is playing in Windows Media Player, you will need to get properties by right clicking on the file and selecting "properties". This will give you the following information.

You will need to copy this link inorder to be able to post it on your blog.

You will now need to post you file onto you blog. You should do this by pasting the link into a post as an active link. This can either be done by pasting it into Bloggers "Compose" mode, or by pressing ctrl+shift+a and pasting the link in the box in "Edit HTML" mode. If you use the ctrl+shift+a, you will need to make sure that you put a name in the title. That is between the ><. Example: <a href="song.mp3">Link</a>.

This will now place a link in you post that when clicked on, will open up in your readers default media player.

For advanced users. (Knowledge of editing your template is required)

You can also set up that you file will be playable directly from your blog without having it open up in another program.

All you really need to do is paste the following under the "</style>" and before the "</head>", close to the top of your template:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://googlelite.free.fr/player.js"></script>

This will now give you a little play button in the front of all the mp3 links on your blog. It will look like this:

Bon Jovi - Diamond Ring

And your done!

P.S. If your template is from blogger-templates.blogspot.com, you will automatically have the option that I have presented in "advanced". However this is only in the new versions, so if you have one from a while ago you will need to update it.

P.P.S. Whenever you edit your template, make a backup copy by selceting all the text and putting it in a word or text file. You should also always "preview" your results before "saving and exit"ing. This will confirm your changes and make sure that you have not messed up anything.

P.P.P.S. I absolutely love this Bon Jovi song!
